As part of our planning for the year ahead, the Soaring Club of Tasmania is actively exploring the acquisition of a new two-seat training glider to complement our existing fleet.

Why a New Trainer?

A healthy gliding club needs reliable dual training capacity. Our IS-28B2 (VH-WVR) has just emerged from a comprehensive refurbishment and is in excellent condition, but having a second two-seat option would give us the flexibility to train more students on busy flying days, offer AEF passengers more availability, and provide redundancy when one aircraft is undergoing scheduled maintenance.

Where Things Stand

We are currently researching options and the acquisition is very much in the planning stages - there are a number of factors to work through including aircraft type, availability, condition, and funding. We will share more details as plans develop.

How You Can Help

Acquiring a new aircraft is a significant undertaking for a volunteer club. If you would like to support Gliding Tasmania, there are a few ways to get involved:

  • Become a member - membership fees go directly to aircraft operations and maintenance
  • Make a tax-deductible donation via the Australian Soaring Foundation
  • Spread the word - the more people who know about the club, the stronger we become

We are excited about what the year ahead holds for Gliding Tasmania. Watch this space for further updates.
